Africa50 supports Clean Cooking Initiative in Africa
At the Summit on Clean Cooking in Africa, in Paris, France, Africa50 CEO, Alain Ebobisé announced the organization’s determination to support clean cooking initiatives across the continent and plans to increase access to clean cooking in remote and under-served areas.
Nearly four in five Africans still cook their meals over open fires and traditional stoves, using wood, charcoal, and other polluting fuels. This has a dire impact on health, the environment, and gender equality, with women and children bearing the worst consequences.
The Summit was co-chaired by the President of the United Republic of Tanzania, H.E. Dr Samia Suluhu Hassan; the Prime Minister of Norway, H.E. Jonas Gahr Støre; the President of the African Development Bank Group, Dr. Akinwumi Adesina; and the Executive Director of the International Energy Agency (IEA) Dr. Fatih Birol.
